Sani Dev

Sani Dev

Shani Dev is a son of Surya Devta (Sun) and Chhaya (Suvarna). Lord Shani Dev is the brother of Yama Dev (deity of death). He is generally depicted in dark complexion, clothed in black. Shani Graha have a seventh place among navagraha. In Sanskrit Shani is called Sanischara, which means, "slow mover". Shani spends 2.5 years in each rashi. When we add the 2.5 years in previous and 2.5 years in next rashi together, the time period of 7.5 years is called Saadasaati Panoti. Saturday is devoted to Lord Shani Dev. In our Hindus society, it is habitual to bath Shani dev in mustard Oil. Shani Devta is most popular deities that the Hindus pray to ward off evil and remove obstacles. Saturn is a karaka of discipline, restriction, responsibility, humility, leadership and authority. Shani Graha is beneficial Graha for Taurus and Libra Ascendants. Shani's direction is west and his day is Saturday. Shani Dev's nature is Airy or Vata. Saturn's gem is Blue Sapphire and all black stones and his metal is Lead. Black articles and Mustard oil are given in donation on Saturday. Black sesame seeds, black flowers, black urada (Horse bean) and black clothes are used for worship Shani Graha.
